Merry Christmas from the Answers team!

Hey everyone,

2008 has been a fantastic year on Answers and we, the Answers team, are very impressed by the vast amounts of knowledge, hidden know-how and out-of-the ordinary experiences you all have shared.

To thank you for your great contributions and for participating in making Answers what it is today – one of the best places to ask and answer questions on the web – we wanted to give you a little something.

We’ve compiled the very first Yahoo! Answers Guide to Everything. Get it here:

In it, you’ll read some of the best questions and answers we’ve seen on the site in 2008. We’ve also included the highlights of the year, from Featured Users to awards Answers has won.

We hope you enjoy it and want to wish you a very Merry green Christmas on Answers and a Happy New Year from the whole Yahoo! Answers team.

  4. This is a wonderful opportunity to send a hearty and loving Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, 2009, to all my friends in England (including Birmingham, Wigan, Blackpool, Wolverhampton and all the ghosts at Glamis, friends in Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Isles of Wight and Skye. I will probably forget someone, but please, just know that I am thinking of all of you with nothing but admiration and love at this special time of year. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of England and Ireland Yahoo! Answers. Sent with positive energies and real gratitude from Chris (65) in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. Cheers – !

  5. Many people have left Yahoo Answers this year because of the way in which they have been treated by Yahoo especially when reporting abuse. It’s about time Yahoo got it’s act together and sorted out a proper registration system so that they can trace these people and ban them, otherwise more and more people will leave.

  15. well maybe it was a good year for you lot but for most of us little users down here it was a year full of reporting and suspending …
… so I hope your New Year’s resolution will be to sort out your reporting system bcs like this you giving power to bored hateful people who report left and right often for reasons like not liking somebodies avatar …
… and your so called “black list” … that is smt I have not even come across in the cumunist regime …
… you can see there is a demand for a “adult kinda fun” on here so instead of trying to get rid of us (a lot of us) you should try to acomodate us … find a way to provide a service that would satisfy us as your customers … somehow you seem to forget that we are customers too !!!

So yes … wish you and us a better New Year !

  17. First of all i would like to wish the YAHOO-ANSWERS’ team and also the comunity the best of season’s greetings and the forthcoming new year 2009, i hereby pray almighty to let this year to b a fruitful year by all meanings and in all fields of our lives and to stop the financial crises & cash crunches we all faced in 2008.
As it regards the Q&As of 2008, i feel it was a steady & informative year as the comunity members were more aware of the system and i hope it is going to be more informative and interesting during 2009 as the members have got used to it more often than before.

  19. What a great service this is for getting and passing on tips and information. Shame that the ‘Best Answer’ system isn’t more controlled though. Some people, especially the young ones could be really confused by some of them….’An orange’ got Best Answer for ‘What does a sea anenome look like’ ! Not exactly helpful to anyone using Y!A to find information for homework or whatever by using the answers search box.. OK marking up crazy replies for fun questions(the cornered Haggis was my favourite, what a scram ),no harm, anything goes, but for the serious ones,it’s not good. Best of luck anyway, and have a good time in the New Year. It’s still mostly good on here.

  25. I have enjoyed Yahoo Answers – but I would have to agree with Joan Kelly and Andrea that because of the ‘blacklist’ system that you use, it has stopped me being on as much as before. Your system is indiscriminate and confusing. You punish the genuine people trying to participate and help; but allow the obvious racist, rude, sexist and downright stupid questions/answers to get through. Tighten up your system and some people may come back.

but”….please oh please, stop those individuals who report from malice.
I am a old citizen, and this forum has given me a new release to inter react with other people, but it has bad elements, where there are of those on here who continual delete over the slightest remark on ones beliefs, and I would like the team to expel those who continually disrupt this wonderful program.
good-luck to the team, and thanks again for your wonderful forum , denis

  37. I have only recently discovered Yahoo Questions and Answers, but enjoy reading the questions and answering the ones which interest me. It’s nice to be able to get and give good advice and I find most users are friendly and helpful. I see some complaints from users about abuse but have not encountered any yet. Just the very occasional thumbs down, which is a bit irksome when one knows one has posted relevant information and someone selects to ”thumb” it down for amusement. Mostly, it’s good fun and sometimes very entertaining and it’s nice to be able to share knowledge and to try to help people by sharing one’s own experience. Keep up the good work and a Happy New Year to everyone.
