The frost begins to thaw

– Kevin Bacon
Yesterday was Martin Luther King’s day. Today is Obama’s. No doubt the media will be filled with hyperbole and a heightened sense of history but it’s no exaggeration to say that Barack Obama’s inauguration as the 44th US President has captured the imagination of millions of people world wide. And not just those that voted for him.
Obama’s inbox is full: the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the global economic crisis and a recession in the US, environmental change and several long standing conflicts all need his government’s attention. Thankfully he arrives with the highest poll ratings with 79% of Americans optimistic about the next four years.
Two years ago he asked a similarly positive question on Answers: how can we engage more people in the democratic process?

In the spirit of this new found optimism in the political process, we have a question on Yahoo! Answers from US actor Kevin Bacon: which political figure from the past 20 years would you like to interview, what would you ask them and why?
Bacon is starring in the new film Frost/Nixon, based on a clash between political and journalistic heavyweights, but in comparison to its setting – an era of corruption and subterfuge – his question finds us with our political glass half full not empty.
So who would you like to interview? A President? A Prime Minister? An activist or simply someone from the shadows who was a fly on the wall to history? Kevin Bacon wants to know…

I would like to interview Winston Churchill as I think he is the greatest Englishman who ever lived.
I would ask him how he managed to keep up the spirits of the British people during the second world war even though he suffered with depression himself. Was it just good acting or did he believe in something enough to be able to rise above his personal problems.
i would like to ask edward heath,1 why did he take GB into the EU without asking the british peoples opinion first(no referendum)
and 2,why did he not forsee and standby by enoch powells opinion that unfettered immigration would eventually kill off UK culture alltogether,
There are non so blind as they who cannot(WILL NOT)see
Many people in the whole world put their hope to you Obama!?
I hope the New President will empower people to escape the economic system that has failed over 95% of the population since it was imposed a thousand years ago.
Governments have been creating the climate change by subsidizing polluters & change in land use because of the Myth – Profit creates wealth.
Profit is the extraction of Money from Workers/Customers so can only exist when money supply is increasing faster than output or new customers (with access to funds) are appearing to plug the shortfall.
The Chinese have known for the past five thousand years or so that
Wealth = the transfer of value * Leverage.
Cash is just an imaginary device to aid the transfer of value (instead of barter) so is only of use when it is flowing this is why cash-flow is the fundamental measure of business success.
Education needs to be reformed to empower people to create the future they want – learn from children how to live in the Now!
I would like to ask Obama if he will be opening a KFC franchise at the White House.
would like the chance to interview jfk and martin luther king in the same arena as they both appeared to be ahead of their times.Good luck Obama may the light that shines in you light up andheal the darkness in our world .
The malaise in politics hs been bought about by politicions themselves, Apart from sleaze and down right dishonisty , Comes the politician that carry through policies designed to futher thir own ends with they atitude that we plebs are to stupid to see through what they re doing , And our feeling is that we can not make differance with our vote because when confronted they refuse to do the right thing and fall on their sword but bluff it out usually helped by their colieagues and even the leader of their party , Example: in Britain recently a thoroughly dishonest ploititician was reinstated to high office , A man if not in public office would in normal circumstances be arrested for embezelment of public funds . We cannot be blamed for when the feeling is they will do what they do and our opionin is to be looked at and discarded as we do not know any better.
It is unfair to put Obama into the position of a mesiah.Wether he is the right man for the job remains to be seen. The econmic problems world wide are enormous, but america is a rich country, and like britain they will get out of hock eventually. But the problems in Iraq and Iran are going to last a long long time.So called civilisation is supposed to have started there, and I think it could end there.Where is the middle ground. The islamic leaders seem unwilling to compromise in any way.Golda Meir said “there,s enough sand for everybody.” It,s religious bigotry gone mad. So is Obama going to make them see sense? No.The problems in Israel are unsolvable ;the palestinians think they shouldn,t be there. But the Israelis are there forever, and there,s plenty of sand.Plenty of sand for everybody. The desert could be made fertile and they could feed the world. If man can get to the moon we can surely reclaim the desert.Africa too is going to explode in the next decade.Coruption seems to be a way of life there.Zimbabwe,s dictatorship will fall soon and the rest of Africa looks rather shaky to say the least. Be we in the west have cast a blind eye and long we can trade. We have a lot to answer for supporting those politcal criminals who rule there. They are not democracies :It,s one man no vote. These problems I think, apart from the economic one,s will be there well after Obama has been and gone. You mark my word.
I would like to interview President Bush and ask how did we end up in this mess after you left office?
Also how did you ever get the top job when clearly you were not competent?
How comes so many people lost their lives at you peril?
