Answers: Crème de la Crème

There are many reasons to love Answers. Some thrive on providing helpful answers that benefit the community. Others enjoy being able to benefit from so much knowledge by a simple click. If you’re an expert in a specific area, why not use that knowledge and become a Top Contributor? A Top Contributor is a member of the community who has shown that they are knowledgeable in a particular category.
How can I become a Top contributor?
With a little dedication a top contributor badge can be yours too. Check out Answers and pick categories you have the most expertise in. Answer questions in the most informative way if you want to increase your chances at getting the best answer.
You can be a top contributor in up to three categories. Remember that the top contributor badge is dynamic, which means that you earn it or lose it depending on your recent participation in a particular category. In other words, the more you participate, the more likely you will earn a badge and but if you stop participating, you will lose your badge. To recover your badge, you have to increase your activity in a specific category again.
Also, most of the users on the Answers Leaderboard happen to be top contributors. The leaderboard allows you to see who’s in the lead and check out their stats. It’s updated every week. Who knows, with a little work, you might make it there too!
Keep in mind that while sharing what you know is encouraged, it is also important to make sure you don’t share anything that puts your answer in violation of the Community Guidelines.

Hi Y!ATUK
Since this is the only blog I could find regarding Answers Leaderboards I thought this is the best place to ask. It is regarding the question asked below on the Yahoo! Answers Suggestion Board.
UK Top 10 Pet answerers, will we ever get them back? There is an “official” user in place of where these would usually be, anyone know if this is permanent?
http://suggestions.yahoo.com/detail/?prop=answers&fid=148692
Is this a permanent feature now?
Or are they going to change it back to show the leaders in each of these categories?
Because some of us users would like to know.
Here are the links to the categories in question.

Home & Garden

Though I must say it is nice to have my answer displayed as Best Answer in the Homes & Gardens link.
Any feedback on this Y!ATUK
Thank you
Dear team,
I feel your opening remarks present a rather simplistic view of the user community, as if there were one group of “givers” and another of “takers”. But in my experience, participation in Answers stimulates a desire to learn, and when you make knowledge grow fruit, the tree puts its roots further down. I don’t think there is anyone who gives without receiving here.
Hi Y!ATUK
I love Answers and feel that I could share my knowledge, and like the idea of earning a TC badge…And as I work in the Garden Centre Industry I feel that I could pass some of my knowledge on.
My only consern at the moment is the Header page on the Home & Garden category…It is of an advertiser on this site. Would it be worth me striving for a TC badge?
YAT where are the real people who pass their knowledge on?
I no longer wish to have anything to do with “Answers”
Top contributors are sad, need to get off the computers & get a life!
Sometimes the top badge can be attained by irrefutable point gaining, answer the abandon quests, and then vote best answer days later,
Q: where can I find the answer to _______ ?
A: try >”___ url link ____”
It is an answer, generic, but not specific, and the person that asked, does not vote or respond, because its too late, or not helpful, not good, nor wrong,
———
Some users are not listed in their category, cause of their main address is US or other Country when they signed in to Yahoo, they could check their Y! Account settings to verify location,
——–
I may be a top contributor, only for being that there are not as many at this time since the beginning, and not always is the one at the top for specific area within category to best, try to leave questions a bit longer then first answer if it was not quite what you were searching for , hopefully some will pass me by legitimately for being as sincere as they are,
(there have been some top contributors as I, that have been falsely reported, some regain there account, some have not, this is a quandary of knowing what is right to do, and whom to convey responses with, going through channels and checking Y! help does assist)
——–
You don’t have the star/ tag/ rss-feed here yet, that may be later,
——-
I’m aware of groups, and comities, and social web functions going about here, sometimes yay, some nay, group bashing simple folk that try to ask similar quest, do not need to be bully with thumbs cause of simplicity in questions, reminder that if they (you’ve) nothing positive to attribute, best not say at all, nor vote in disapproval cause of, check guidelines again
——–
Unfortunately there are youths* twelve under that wheedle their way into this system, but ignore rules, and can easily ding us with revengeful spirits ill as delighted as they seem, thumbs and reports are not wanted, if older users are aware, they are best to notify Yahoo before others get removed,
(*On that, where can youths go to ask questions?)
Yahooligans/ kids-yahoo does not have question area,
there is ask earl and studyzone, but not this type of Q&A,
——-
Some older posts with links are now void, due to the site has closed (like yahoo photos, or briefcase, and geocities), or address url has changed, but the answer may still be correct if stated,
——
There is always the option to search for previous answers with advanced search, before asking the same question as others again
——
“ave a nice day,
Among the many failings of Y!A is its chronic complacency. (Another major failing is the number of its answers which are plumb wrong – due to there being no kind of quality control, and many of the boards being riddled with troll cliques).
It is a chat site – and as a chat site it does tolerably well.
Experts with a skill to impart go elsewhere (or get their accounts suspended_.
I like to think that I can help people. However, I frequently find questions which are silly. Then again, others already have dozens of replies saying the same thing so why add my reply saying the same thing just to score a point. I also think it unfair that posters can score points by just saying “yeah” or something equally useless
