Call for community: 7.0 earthquake hits Haiti

On Tuesday, January 12, Haiti was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, centered 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince. The quake has caused widespread damage and casualties and structural damage. At this point, authorities are unsure as to just how much damage the quake has caused but know that its impact was vast and intense.

In times like these, it is important for communities to band together to provide support.

On Answers, we form a community of collective knowledge- but in the real world, together, we create a collective bound together by one thing: humanity, and the ability to endure. And in times like these, it’s important to remember that, and to help others persevere.

According to the Associated Press, “it was clear from a tour of the capital that tens of thousands of people had lost their homes and that many had perished. Many buildings in Haiti are flimsy and dangerous even under normal conditions.”

  3. I was in dismay by the death rate, and corpse laying about in the streets.
The high death rate was caused by collapsing stonebuildings, which are made up by stone. I think in the past the inhabitants of the Caribean built wooden homes, which could suffered any earthquake or hurricane . I hope the goverment look into this after the international aid has support the people of Haiti.

  4. I have donated and I am doing everything I can to raise awareness and help as much as I can.
Those poor people have lost everything, I can’t imagine what I would do if it happened to me or someone I know.

I can’t understand how the world’s media have been able to get in to Port-au-Prince, and bring us daily reports, yet aid is struggling to find its way to people who’s life depends on it?

I received a ‘joke’ via text message last night about the earthquake, and I was outraged how anyone can find humour in such a major disaster. I urge you all to delete and ignore the sick people who send these ‘jokes’ around. It is a time for compassion and empathy – not cheap humour!

  6. Here in west of Ireland they have set up meetings & are organizing people (tradesmen, builders etc) to go over to rebuild houses. Irish people are always very quick to help others in times of need..is very sad to see such suffering & pain…my thoughts are with these people…

  8. What happen when Bacteria cause catastrophic environmental events?

Bacteria spread more fear addressing the bacteria that live in the “temples”, body of the blood species. Bacteria that survive and other bacterial groups take advantage to spread bacterial gospels. People are afraid and the bacterial opportunistic evangelist take advantage of their fear. All bacteria are out to buy more human sheep, cows, apes, goats, pigs, and whatever they call their victims.

These poor victims don’t know that they are running to the very ones that cause them so much harm.

Of course, after the bacteria in the religious people living on earth gorge themselves on poor animals through sacrificial bloodshed, then the bacteria living under the earth want to gorge themselves too, so the earth to move so they can break human temples in order to eat human animals. They choose vulnerable countries to do so as advanced countries have technological methods to defend themselves.

This is the result of the rich people who were poor who sold their heart and body for power cause. They protect their kids to rule after they die and send their gods, bacteria, to kill among the poor who unknowingly accept the contracts of death: the religious books.

  10. I don’t think money is going to solve the issue anytime soon. Remember how long it took for aid to get to America after hurricane Katrina? Donations don’t even pay for aid, they pay for Western workers to distribute the aid (which itself is relatively cheap). Now if workers volunteered and didn’t get paid western salaries to work in countries where local currency, food&water is dirt cheap donations might actually mean something. I’m going to pay a worker hundreds of pounds to deliver food and water that costs pennies to people that don’t earn that much in a year? I don’t think so. When money donated is only used for water and food, ie, what we’re donating for in the first place, then I’ll happily donate.

  12. I personably believe that praying to God (if there is one) blocks his ability to help others, as he is listening to us and not to them.

  13. Stop the US from using this disaster to consolidate their hold on Haiti. They really are that evil.

“Food and water cannot be given out because it will cause rioting.” You know it makes sense.

Bacteria? Sacrificial bloodshed? what on earth are you on about? Considering the loss of life here, do you not think you could have taken your psuedo-religious (and quite frankly ridiculous) beliefs elsewhere? Show a little decency.
