It’s Bonus time: Get Double Points for Your Answers Now!

UPDATE: Double Points is now over, thank you so much for your amazing answering!

For a strictly limited period, you can earn an extra 2 points for every question you answer.

‘Tis the time of year for saying “thank you”, giving gifts and rewarding hard work. Our way of saying “thank you” to you, the Yahoo! Answers community – for your hard work this year – comes in the form of this special bonus. Yes, it’s DOUBLE POINTS for every question you answer– four instead of two.

Why are we doing this?

We know you enjoy earning points on Yahoo! Answers, especially to move up through the levels. But we also know it can feel like slow progress at times, like a marathon… So, for a short while, we’re giving you the chance to sprint! With double points up for grabs, it’s a golden opportunity for you to make some big gains and go for the next level.

Has it started already? When does it end?

It’s live now from December 6th and will last for a limited period of time.

Want to know when it will end?  Well, we’re going to keep that a secret for now…

However, if you follow us on Twitter we’ll give regular updates of how long is left…

We’ll also notify you here, on the blog, as soon as it closes. In the meantime, make the most of it!

How do I get started?

It couldn’t be easier to get involved. Just sign-in (or sign-up if you’ve not visited before) and start answering questions. The browse categories page is a great place to start.

Tell us what you think about our Double Point bonus

We think offering double points is something you will appreciate… we hope it’s not like one of those terrible Christmas presents you just want to put back under the tree. But do let us know what you really think – we won’t be offended, promise.

Also, do let us know what you think by leaving a comment.

  1. What a hoot!.. I think it is great. A nice incentive. Many folk knock the points system saying literally that it is pointless but to many like myself it is fun. I love getting stars like a little child at school. I am now the proud owner of a bus pass and still love yahoo even if I get mad at violations I am wittering .. Sorry God bless everyone, staff and contributors included..

  3. Thank Yahoo Answers! Great idea. I love to answer questions but sometimes it can feel like a real slog with just 2 points. 4 points gives a lot more incentive. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

  22. It’s an incentive, plain and simple. Every little bit helps.

  23. Useful incentive, but it does mean some daft answers from some who are just collecting points.

Comment posted on December 10th, 2010 at 11:47 am by Oldfolkie
  24. I feel this incentivises quantity over quality and I have seen a lot more irrelevant one-word answers around since you brought this in. A better incentive would be double points for best answers; at least that would incentivise quality and reward proper behaviour.

I also think it is very poor that you are creating privileged access to information. I don’t even know what Twitter is, let alone how to use it. I feel your points promotion is basically an attempt to persuade users to sign up for a service not all of us want. I think you should respect us enough to be upfront with all users about the information – not just those who have signed up to your joint venture partner’s service.

  25. i answered a question to which there were 6 answers, apart from my own answer non of them had more than six words!
    short and sweet…….. YES
    helpful…………………..NO
    interesting……………..NOT
    answered for points.FOR SURE!

we should answer a question because we want to help, not to gain points!, i would answer if there were no points at all to be gained at all!

  26. I take it that you have a major meeting with your advertisers coming up, and you need to prove that you have plans to improve your “hit rate”. Far better things you could have done, like doing away with TDs, which drive people away intensely annoyed, and addressing the issue of multiple spam through ISPs.

As a Level 7, points are not that important, rather I wish for a more enjoyable experience when I log in.

Probably get a VN for this, or a drop in CM rating, but it needs to be said.

  28. Hey James,

Thanks for your feedback. Don’t worry, Thumbs Down’s days are numbered, as we’ve mentioned on the Suggestion Board a few times. And we fight spam daily.

  33. A fabulous idea and thank you.
The only problem is that there so many other pressures on my time right now, that it becomes increasingly harder to spend as much time on Y!A as I normally would. I’m this applies to other people as well.
Thanks again and have a great Christmas Holiday.

  52. You’re still advertising this all over yahoo answers, but the answers aren’t getting double points anymore. What gives? If the promotion is over shouldn’t the ads be taken down? If it isn’t, I want my double points for all my questions I answered today.
